New Censor Officer Takes Charge

Our readers are aware that Regional Censor officer in Hyderabad, Dhanalakshmi who is tormenting film makers for a long time is transferred to else where in October. However Dhanalakshmi was recently relieved and the Central government has made a new appointment in her place. Press Information Bureau, Director Vijay Kumar Reddy Thumma is appointed as Censor officer. He previously had the experience of working as a Censor Officer. Reddy belongs to the 1990--batch Indian Information Service (IIS). Previously, he also held key positions in various departments of the I&B Ministry. Sources tell us that Reddy took charge on Monday in Regional Censor Office in Hyderabad.  Dhana Lakshmi has been a thorn in the flesh of Telugu film makers by being too strict in implementing the rules. While some say she is too greedy and corrupt, insiders say she is hell bent on rules and is totally resistant to corruption. Censor Board is a kind of joke in India for several years. Film makers just used to take it for granted and complete the censor formality just a day or two ahead of the movie release paying some gift to the board members. Dhana Lakshmi had totally put a check on this culture and made sure every film irrespective of big or small under go the process according to rules. Several big heads of the industry tried to get transfer her with their political connections but it could not be possible because of her track record. We will have to see how this new Censor Officer works@
